Commissioned Work: Wattle Sky - Star Seeds

Star Seeds

Commissioned Work: Wattle Sky

Words by J.  O’Regan.  Music by J. Twist.

Can you imagine … the beauty of the bright yellow wattle flowers growing in the green, leafy wattle tree, against the sky of blue, creating a contrasting ‘pop’ of colour?

It’s as if nature is having a party - a celebration ... like when we sing with joy!!

This song celebrates the wattle – its colour and place in nature, and touches on the historic use of wattle by the Australian Aboriginal Peoples, who used the wood for warmth and for music.

Humans are and always will be, curious and inquisitive. We have looked to the stars and found ways to explore the skies above... to walk in space and live in the sky!

Scientific research to sustain and improve life on Earth is constantly taking place. Transporting humans AND seeds into space explores endless possibilities and opportunities for all forms of
life. The International Space Station stored thousands of wattle seeds for 7 months before they were sent back to Earth and then distributed to many schools in Australia to test and grow.
The big question – did living in space affect them, and one day, could we grow seeds in space? Might wattle trees live in the stars? Can you imagine?

This song is the story of the wattle – Australia’s national floral emblem. It tells of its history and place in our world, PLUS the exciting experiment to send seeds into space. Learn this long song in small chunks – learning and revising. Whether you are singing a quiet gentle section, or a strong uplifting section, sing confidently – YOU are the storytellers, the word painters, the image makers who WILL bring the Wattle Sky songs to life!
