Primary Schools Music Festival Affiliation

Being affiliated with the Festival of Music provides schools with:

  • A year-long choral program that compliments your Performing Arts program
  • Learning materials aligned with the Australian Curriculum for students and teachers
  • Performance opportunities – in school and local community
  • Visits to your school by either the Director of Music or the Assistant Director of Music
  • Opportunities for students to audition for our orchestras, troupes, as hosts and other roles
  • Access for teachers to attend our workshops and conferences for Professional Development.

There are 3 levels of affiliation.

  1. Adelaide Affiliates – perform at a world class Adelaide theatre
  2. Regional Affiliates – perform at a theatre in their region. There is an opportunity to participate at the Adelaide theatre (this incurs a fee for students on stage).
  3. Associate Affiliates – allows schools to have access to our music and learning materials with no performance expectations.

SUGGESTED - CHOIR BUDGET 2024

Your Choir budget should include:

6 TRT days minimum

  • 2 for conference day #1
  • 1 for conference days #2
  • 1 for off-site rehearsal
  • 1 for concert Day
  • 1 for combined choir rehearsal
(If you have a large choir you may need extra adults to meet ratios).

3 bus trips

  • 1 if you are attending a combined rehearsal in Term 1 (drop off and return)
  • 1 for off-site rehearsal (drop off and return)
  • 1 for Concert Day (Drop off only. Parents collect their children)

We strongly encourage the use of public transport (free for schools between 9am-3pm), parent transport, share with other schools, Community transport (Council bus) and/or walk where possible.

Adelaide or Regional Affiliates travelling to Adelaide Concert Series need to consider:

  • Buses to and from Adelaide
  • Accommodation for students whilst in Adelaide

We encourage schools to seek funding from:

  • Local Councils
  • Community organisations (Lions, Rotary)
  • Variety
  • Jane Lyall Scholarship (opens June)

Your Choir may need an Hourly Paid Instructor (HPI) teacher and/or accompanist. This entitles you to 17 HPI Choir Teacher hours or 15 HPI Accompanist hours. Limit of one Department paid HPI per school.

  • Processing fee of $230.00 (+GST)
  • Where a school has been appointed an HPI Choir Teacher OR an HPI Accompanist, payment will be made by the Department
  • Where a school has been appointed both a Choir Teacher and an Accompanist, the Department will pay for the Accompanist and the school will pay the Choir Teacher directly
  • Additional HPI hours (if required) need to be budgeted at the school level to be accessed
once the allocated hours are exhausted, after which HPIs will invoice the school directly.

Many schools charge choir students a participation fee to subsidise the cost. For example, some schools charge their students $50.00 each for participation. Charges may include bus hire, t-shirts, materials etc.

If you have any question about your schools’ level of participation, please contact us and we will happily answer your questions.
