You're the Voice
Words and Music by K. Reid, A. Qunta, M. Ryder, C. Thompson.
Arranged by E. Ruediger.
Australian singer John Farnham released You’re the Voice in 1986, and it became an instant hit in Australia as well as several European countries, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
It was taken from his 12th studio album Whispering Jack, which is the third-highest-selling album of all time in Australia as well as the highest of any Australian artist.
You’re the Voice, written by a team of British song writers, was inspired by a 1985 anti-nuclear protest rally in London. Chris Thompson, one of the composers, slept in and missed the rally.
He was annoyed at himself and to show his remorse, wrote the song expressing the notion - “If you want to create change, it starts with yourself”.
This song has one of the most recognisable and famous bagpipe solos ever recorded! John Farnham decided to swap out the bass guitar for bagpipes, which required the entire song to
be played in the key of B-flat, the only key bagpipes play in.
Sing this power ballad with passion and energy.
