Australia’s National Anthem used to be God Save the Queen because of links with Great Britain.
In 1974 and 1977 opinion polls were held to decide what our Australian National Anthem should be. Advance Australia Fair won the vote against other songs such as God Save the
Queen and Waltzing Matilda and The Song of Australia.
Advance Australia Fair was adopted as the Australian National Anthem in 1984.
For our 2025 performance in The Entertainment Centre, we have added an alto part to the arrangement for the first time in many years.
Stand tall and strong, and sing proudly and don’t forget to learn and practise the Auslan signing to both verses from bar 17 (verse 1) and bar 37 (verse 2).
