Orchestra Information 2020
The Festival of Music for 2020 will be held early September in the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
Three orchestras consisting of approximately 30-35 public school students will be formed to accompany the choir and perform featured orchestral items.
Each orchestra is made up of a string, wind and rhythm section and rehearse at one of three locations, across the Metropolitan area.
Orchestra is open to any Department for Education student who will be in Years 5-10 in 2019 (school does not need to be participating in the Festival).
Members must attend:
- Weekly rehearsals from 4:20pm to 6:00pm (one night a week)
- Full day or half day workshops as required (maximum of 2)
- 2 full day offsite rehearsals
- 4 rehearsals and 4 performances at the Festival Theatre
Please note that extra workshops, rehearsals or venue changes may occur to further develop the students learning. These will be advised as early as possible to assist your planning.
South Orchestra - Seaview High School - Thursdays 4:20pm - 6:00pm
Central Orchestra - Glenunga Int High School - Wednesdays 4:20pm - 6:00pm
North Orchestra - PSMF Klemzig - Thursdays 4:20pm - 6:00pm
Cost - A fee of $55 is charged to cover cost of uniform and music folder.

- Thursday 14 November, 8am - 6pm at PSMF Klemzig
- Sunday 17 November, 2pm - 6pm at PSMF Klemzig
- Thursday 21 November, 9am - 5pm at PSMF Klemzig
- Thursday 28 November, 11am - 2pm at Seaview High School
Auditions are open to public school students in years 5-10.
Applicants will be asked to present the following:
Excerpt playing - each instrument has a set of excerpts that must be presented (see below). (available from 31 October)
Free choice piece - this piece should demonstrate the applicants current playing ability. Please provide the panel with a copy of the music (this will be returned to you after the audition
Duration of each audition is approximately 10 minutes.
