Flashdance (What a Feeling)
Words by K. Forsey and I. Cara. Music by G. Moroder.
Arranged by C. Lange and E. Ruediger.
This song is from the 1983 movie Flashdance, and was sung by Irene Cara. Moroder was asked to compose the music for the movie, and Cara and Forsey wrote most of the lyrics.
In the opening scene, the young girl, Alex, is seen working at her job as a welder. She dreams of becoming a ballerina and must overcome her fear of auditioning before a panel of judges. Her ambition to succeed is a great message of hope for achieving any dream a person has and the lyrics describe what it feels like when music inspires someone to dance. Make sure YOU
follow your dreams!
New trends were inspired by the movie ... leg warmers, off the shoulder windcheaters and the urban dance style blending ballet, jazz and street dancing.
Fun fact - Despite the song’s title, the word ‘’Flashdance” is not heard anywhere in the lyrics!
Sing this song with tonnes of energy and be inspired by your own self-expression.
