Proud was released in 2000 as the debut solo single by Heather Small – a British soul singer who was in the group M People. 
The lyrics of Proud highlight the importance of embracing your own individuality, recognising the value you bring to the world, having self-belief, and having resilience. They remind us that we each have our own strengths, talents, and achievements to be acknowledged and celebrated.
In 2023, Heather Small performed Proud with The Young Voices - the largest children’s choir in the world comprising nearly 8,000 children.
